Stuttgart - Day 7 & Sasbachwalden Day 8
Guess what we are doing?
If you guessed that our day started with charging that damned electric car again, you’d be absolutely right. This time it was a real nail-biter—we were running on fumes trying to find the nearest charging station before the battery flatlined. Little did we know, the entire day would end up being ruled by one thing and one thing only: charging drama.
Not needed information is we were driving this sad little Opel SUV that I renamed as Pearl as I could not remember the brand.
At the last minute, my friend Daniel messaged and asked if we wanted to be spontaneous and meet up for Kaffee und Kuchen—and since we were nearby, of course I said yes! We had such a lovely lunch, and in true adventurous spirit, Daniel decided to hop in the car with us afterward to help find a charging station. Little did he know what kind of chaos he’d just signed up for.
After four or five failed stops, we finally found a place to “fuel up.” Of course, by then it was absolutely pouring rain, so we hung out in the car and killed time with a few rounds of Uno Reverse before deciding to brave the weather and walk to the grocery store. That’s when Caitlin had her oops moment—accidentally breaking a bottle of liquor right there in the aisle. Total party foul. Thankfully, our only German speaker, Daniel, smoothed things over with the store staff.
Once the car was finally fully charged, we went to pick up Daniel’s wife and head out for some Döner—because honestly, nothing hits quite like it after a long day of driving and charging chaos. Dinner was so much fun, full of laughter and great conversation, and it was really nice getting to know them both better.
Oh, and the first photo in this bunch? That’s Caitlin sneaking cake in the car—literally right before dinner. I caught her mid-bite, totally unbothered. Priorities, right?
Did I mention we charged Pearl 5 times that day!
I’m adding a few photos from day eight here since the Black Forest hike got its own special post. We stayed at the most charming little bed and breakfast in Sasbachwalden, and honestly, it was perfect. Breakfast came with incredible views of the rolling hills, and the food was just as good as the scenery.
After eating, we wandered around the area for a bit, snapping some photos of the picture-perfect village before heading out for our hike. The early morning fog in the Black Forest gave everything this mysterious, almost eerie vibe—it felt like we had stepped straight into a fairytale… a slightly spooky one.
After finishing our hike at Allerheiligen Wasserfälle, we couldn’t resist stopping for a few photos—one of a slightly creepy old playground (the kind that looks straight out of a horror movie) and another of a beautiful little house tucked away in the trees.
Fun fact for anyone traveling in Germany: it actually costs money to use the restroom. I even snapped a photo of the little pay gate because, honestly, it still cracks me up every time. While we were stopped to charge the car—and, of course, pay to pee—I grabbed some Currywurst and Pommes for lunch. Simple, classic, and so good.
Later that evening, we finally rolled into Köln, got settled into our hostel, and headed out for dinner. After a long day on the road, some tasty sushi was exactly what we needed.
