Oktoberfest - Day 6
I wanted to title this post “Munich,” but let’s be honest—the whole trip really revolved around Oktoberfest. Our morning started off simple and cozy with coffee and pastries down at Marienplatz, the heart of the city.
On the way, we stumbled upon this unusual-looking water fountain that, surprisingly, is actually meant for drinking or filling up bottles—so of course, Caitlin had to try it! We stuck around to watch the Glockenspiel chime and wandered through the local market stalls, checking out everything from fresh produce to quirky souvenirs.
And because Germany apparently wanted to stay on theme, the weather kept up its streak—gloomy, gray, and rainy for the third day in a row. Thanks, Germany, really keeping things consistent!
Next up was the Englischer Garten, which turned out to be way bigger than I expected! We spent a while just wandering around, soaking in the peaceful green space and stopping to admire a few of the monuments scattered throughout the park.
And then came the surprise of the day: a cigarette vending machine. Yep, right there in the middle of this beautiful park! We just stood there for a minute, totally amused that of all the things we’d find in such a serene spot, that would be one of them. Germany really keeps you on your toes.
Finally—the moment we’d been waiting for: Oktoberfest! I’m going to be totally honest, it wasn’t quite what I expected. We decided to go on a weeknight (because, let’s face it, Caitlin and I aren’t exactly crowd people), but even then, it was a bit of a letdown.
Somewhere between the rain, the high prices, and the realization that Oktoberfest is basically a state fair with lederhosen and a lot of beer, the magic wore off a little. Don’t get me wrong—the food was amazing and I’m glad we went at least once, but it definitely didn’t live up to the hype I’d built up in my head. Still, it’s one of those “you have to do it once” kind of experiences… even if once is enough!
