Hannover - Day 14
My first full day in Hannover started the only way it should—with a mission to find coffee. The closest spot turned out to be a tiny bakery tucked inside the grocery store near my hostel, but honestly, it did the trick. Caffeine secured, I set off to explore the city and immediately stumbled upon the cutest little postal bike. Seriously, why don’t we have things like that in the U.S.? Probably because we’re obsessed with everything being bigger. As I kept wandering, I came across this small cemetery right in the middle of the city. It wasn’t well maintained, which somehow made it even more interesting, and some of the headstones were really unique—quiet, a little eerie.
Strolling through Maschpark, I managed to snap some really great shots of the New Town Hall—funny how “new” it doesn’t really look so new! The trail wound along the lake, giving me plenty of chances to catch the building from different angles and soak in the peaceful views.
While wandering around, I stumbled across a ruined church tucked right in the middle of all the modern city buildings. It was such a cool juxtaposition, and I ended up snapping some really amazing photos both inside and out. By the time I worked up an appetite, I stopped for lunch at Brauhaus Ernst August. I treated myself to a refreshing lime beer cocktail and a hearty Cordon Bleu with fries—definitely hit the spot!
While waiting at Hannover HBF for my friend Jonas, I noticed this guy who looked super sad, clutching his cello. Turns out he was just leaning on it while sending a text—zoom in on the photo and you can see! Once Jonas arrived, we decided to grab some Thai food since he’d never tried it before. We found a cozy little spot, sat outside on the cool night, and enjoyed a Thai beer along with some tasty dishes while catching up. After dinner, we made our way back to Oscar’s for a few drinks to wrap up the evening.
